On February 16, 1999, in a span of 80 minutes, five powerful explosions shook Tashkent. According to official information, 13 people died and more than 100 were injured.
On this day, at 11 am, a meeting with the participation of President Islam Karimov was to be held in the building of the Cabinet of Ministers of Uzbekistan.
The first explosion occurred at 10:40 am, on Yusuf Khos Khozhib Street near the building of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (1.9 kilometers to the Government Building). The 2nd explosion happened at 10:55 on Sharaf Rashidov Avenue, in the immediate vicinity of the Government building (150 meters). The 3rd explosion was heard at 10:58 near the building of the Cabinet of Ministers of Uzbekistan. The 4th explosion occurred at 11:20 near the National Bank of Uzbekistan building (4.0 kilometers to the Government Building), at the time, when Karimov was giving an interview to Uzbek TV. Finally, the 5th explosion was detected at 12:00, it happened in the garage of a private house on Abdulla Kahhar Street, near the Jewish agency “Sokhnut”.
On the day of the explosions, Islam Karimov, known for his particular punctuality, arrived at the Government building with a few minutes delay (after the 3rd explosion). According to the guidelines of the Presidential Security Service, the President should have been evacuated to a safe place after the first explosion (a clear threat to the life of the protected object); however Karimov’s guards overlooked this rule.
Upon Karimov’s arrival at the Government building, Uzbek TV journalists were already waiting for him. During the interview, Islam Karimov stated that there had been 4-5 explosions in different parts of the city, although by that time there had been only three. The 4th explosion occurred when Islam Karimov was answering journalists’ questions (this moment is captured on the video). Karimov only looked in the direction of the explosion and continued commenting on the situation, as if nothing had happened.
The main task of the intelligence services of any country is to predict, prevent, detect and suppress threats to the security of the state, the people and its leader. If we stick to the official version of the Tashkent bombings, Karimov should have fired all the heads of the security services and initiated criminal proceedings against them, because they had failed to prevent the terrorist attack.
However, this did not happen, instead, thousands of innocent people and political opponents of the Karimov regime were arrested and illegally convicted, but not the leadership of the security services (Rustam Inoyatov and Zakir Almatov).
This basic fact is the clear proof that the Tashkent bombings were organized by Islam Karimov himself and the special services of Uzbekistan, to strengthen their power and establish total state control over all spheres of the Uzbek society. The Karimov regime developed into a terrorist state that took the people of Uzbekistan hostage and terrorized them for decades.
Uzbekistan has no future, unless there is a revolutionary reset of the state order, which will give a political and legal assessment of the crimes of the communist dictatorship, the regimes of Karimov and Mirziyoyev!
