At the urgent request of the former president of Kazakhstan, Nursultan Nazarbayev, a meeting took place on September 6 in Bukhara between him and Uzbek citizen Shavkat Mirziyaev.
Following the tragic events of January 2022 in Kazakhstan, Nazarbayev found himself unable to travel abroad, his inner circle was removed from power, and some were even held criminally accountable.
To remain relevant and preserve the remnants of his family’s wealth, Nazarbayev proposed that Mirziyoyev act as a mediator to resolve his disagreements with the current president of Kazakhstan, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev.
According to well-informed sources, the meeting also included discussions about relocating the Nazarbayev family’s business to Uzbekistan and the possibility of providing asylum in Uzbekistan for some of Nazarbayev’s close associates.
The Nazarbayev clan plans to use Uzbekistan as a base for a future attempt to overthrow the Tokayev regime and regain power in Kazakhstan. To further this plan, Nursultan Nazarbayev secured a lobbying agreement with Shavkat Mirziyaev for tens of thousands of hectares of land near the Kazakh border in Karakalpakstan, intended for the influential ethnic Kazakh leader in Uzbekistan and Nazarbayev’s close friend, Tursynkhan Khudaybergenov.
A day after the meeting with Nazarbayev in Bukhara, Shavkat Mirziayev flew to Astana to participate in the opening ceremony of the 5th World Nomad Games, where, among other matters, he discussed the delicate issue of the Nazarbayev clan with Kassym-Jomart Tokayev.
In recent years, Nursultan Nazarbayev has gained notoriety as a perverse dictator. On January 22, 2020, the grandson of the former president of Kazakhstan, Aisultan Nazarbayev, posted on his Facebook profile that Nursultan Nazarbayev was not his grandfather, but his father: “My mother had my grandfather under her thumb because I am his son!” In other words, for a long time, Nursultan Nazarbayev had been involved in a sexual relationship with his stepdaughter, Dariga.
Shortly after making this statement, Aisultan passed away suddenly.
Such are Shavkat Mirziyaev’s partners. It’s no wonder the saying goes, “like attracts like”.
